Let’s explore how to find Middle C, understand how long a semibreve lasts, and discover how to clap, say, and play this cool note! Grab your pencils and let’s get started!inding Middle C
First things first, let’s find that magical note, Middle C! In John Thompsons Book, you will see it on page 8. Here’s how to spot it:
Look at the piano keys: Middle C is right in the middle of the keyboard. It’s the white key just to the left of the two black keys in the centre of your piano. It’s the 24th key on an 88-key piano!
Notes on the staff: When you see a note on the music staff, Middle C sits on a line that you can easily recognise. It's the first note below the treble staff.
Say it out loud: When you find it, give it a name! Say "Middle C!" This will help you remember it better. Studies show that speaking aloud can boost memory retention by up to 50%.
Play it: Now for the fun part! Place your right thumb on Middle C and press it down. Listen to the sound it makes. Isn’t it awesome? Let’s hear how it sounds in a simple melody!
The Semibreve
The Semibreve
You may have heard the term "semibreve" before, but what does it mean? A semibreve is a special type of note that tells you how long to play. Here's what you need to know:
It lasts a long time: A semibreve lasts for four beats! That's equivalent to holding your note four times as you count “one, two, three, four.” This is crucial when playing many popular songs.
It looks different: On your sheet music, a semibreve is a big, empty circle without a stem.
Try counting: Let’s practice clapping to a semibreve! Clap and count “one, two, three, four.” Make sure your claps are all equal! For example, in a 4/4 time signature, clapping a semibreve gives a steady rhythm.
Clap it, say it , play it!
It, Play It!
Now that you know what a semibreve is, it’s time to put everything together! We will clap, say, and play Middle C.
Clap it: First, clap your hands while counting to four. Each clap should be strong and together. Imagine you have a metronome beating at 60 BPM to keep you in time!
Say it: As you clap, say “Middle C” for each clap. It’s a fun chant that reinforces your learning!
Play it: Now, let’s play! Press Middle C down for four beats while saying "Middle C." Feel like a mini superstar in your own concert!
A little bit of daily practise!
