Freelance Fun-Keys Piano Teacher

To start in April

Fun-Keys 4 Kids is a growing family business. We teach piano & music to kids from 2.5 years upwards in nurseries, after school clubs and privately. Our aim is for children to become passionate about music at an early age.

We are looking for passionate freelance piano teachers to work part-time with the option to grow the working to join our growing team.

As a freelance piano teacher you will be teaching small groups of children in our current nurseries and schools across London as well as running piano demonstrations in our prospective nurseries. You will also have the option of teaching privately if you have the right degrees.

You responsibilities will also include lesson planning and writing reports as well as establishing good relationships with parents and managers. We will give you all the support and training you need to become a very successful teacher.

Steps for application

Before we invite you for an interview you must send us:

  1. Three minute video of yourself teaching. Imagine the camera is a class full of 5 year olds. Looking at the camera teach the G Major Scale in a fun way. Remember we want to engage and we want to enjoy the lesson. We are called Fun-Keys for a reason :) You are free to use your imagination.

  2. An example of Schemes of Work that you have created in the past.

  3. A Lesson Plan written by you.

The successful candidates will fulfill the following skills and requirements:

  • Excellent improvisational skills

  • Pediatric First Aid: OFSTED Rated Course / or in the process of obtaining one.

  • A passion for teaching and experience of teaching young children.

  • Enhanced DBS with update service.

  • A degree/relevant diploma in music/piano or be in the process of obtaining one.

  • Teaching certificate: PGCE

  • Two professional references and one character reference.

  • Knowledge of Trinity or ABRSM grades.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit to increase the numbers of students at their given nursery.

  • Excellent communication, a can-do attitude.

  • Solid organisational skills - excellent at planning, time management and efficient.

  • Respectful, friendly and warm nature

  • Ability to think on one’s feet and be proactive.

  • Good written and spoken English (capable of writing termly reports) as well as answering parents emails.

  • You must have access to a computer, smartphone device and use Twitter and WhatsApp.

  • Knowledge of Google Apps (Spreadsheets, Docs, Drive, Gmail).

  • Must be able to commit for at least 1 year, with a minimum of 9 hrs per week of teaching time, with the option of extending teaching hours.

Important information - read before applying:

  • Your CV should demonstrate your experience and you may be required to complete a trial period.

  • If successful all teachers must attend one week of training by shadowing an experienced Fun-Key tutor in various settings and only the travel expenses will be covered.

  • In addition to the normal £25 p/h teaching rate you will receive 20% of the course fee paid for every new student you book.

  • You will also be paid a retention fee of 10% for students who go on to successive terms.

  • There is the option of hosting “Piano demonstrations” at new schools and nurseries to recruit students and gain further commission.

  • Hours may vary from term to term.

  • This job involves travel all around London, time and expenses of traveling are not paid but this is reflected in commissions.

Salary:

Nurseries Teaching Rates

Teaching - £25 per hour

New Student commission - 20% of fee (*eg 20% of £189 = £37.80)

Student retention commission -10% of fee

Private Teaching Rates

30min - £19.20

45min -£25.60

1hr - £32.00

1.5hr -£44.00

2hr - £56.00
